Here’s a piece I’ve done to contribute to Sloane Leong’s ([link]) insane exposition Battles Without Honor and Humanity show at Floating World Comics, at Portland, Oregon, on September 15th! If you are nearby, make sure to take a look, many skilled art-monsters showcasing there, such as Kris Mukai, Maritsa Patrinos, Andrew MacLean, Ralph Niese, Alexis Ziritt, and more!
Though I’d also talk a bit about the picture -
Conceptually, I’ve always loved two things about yakuzas: Their sense of honor (and sometimes lack of) and tattoos. So I wanted to try to despict both things in the same picture, but this yakuza doesn’t have a tattoo, but he’s as much yakuza as the one who beheaded him: it’s in his blood.
Technically, I decided taking on painting this time. I really suck at traditional painting, but when I got myfirst tablet I wanted to do paintings only! But ultimately got more known for the cell-shaded style. So here’s another take. Since I started making comics, I found several interesting lineart manipulation techniques so here I thought of doing it again - All ink in the actual piece was translated into blood on my picture.
I hope you enjoy it, and if you are nearby Portland, give it a shot! The facebook event with more info: [link]
